Day 538: Focusing on My Strengths

Wow, it has been more than a month since the last post. Such a long time that people have actually been asking for new posts. I have been in a close relationship with my computer, typing the hours away, but obviously I haven’t had the motivation or inspiration (or both) to update this blog. It’s time. It’s been time for a while now.

It’s not like anything isn’t happening in my life. There’s lots. Maybe even too much. I don’t want to write a long post about everything that’s going on. Let’s keep it short. By now, the running season is over. I didn’t finish it with a bow but I did finish a marathon only 2 days ago. Not a great one but I finished. Let’s leave it there. Better days are yet to come. The study season is full-on. My MA thesis demands attention. Loads of it. I am slowly starting to realise that I am actually doing it. My job search? My attempt to break into the IT world? Well, this is just what I wanted to talk about.

Focus Shift

After hectic hours, days, weeks I am finally in a state of calm. Zen, you might call it. It seems only yesterday when I was anxious. Nervous. Not really going anywhere. But now I feel at peace with the world. What must come, will come. Somehow, I changed my focus. I decided no longer to focus on everything. No one can be expected to know and be able to do everything. I made a resolution to focus on my strengths, to do things that I am really good at. Great, even. I have been accepting almost every single translation job offer that has come my way. I need to work. Instead of hating it and trying to escape the world of translation, I have dived deep into it. This is something I know and can do, so why the hell not? I am looking for a new job, a change of career, but I am no longer fretting about it. It will happen soon enough anyway.

I also realised that I might not become a developer after all. I do love the world of IT but coding might be not the right pathway into it. Luckily, there are other roads to be taken. I have already tried my feet on that kind of ground. The first steps have been kind of wobbly, but I love it! Just imagine, the world of IT also needs writers. Yes! People who would produce texts. UX (user experience), copy-writing, technical writing. Hell, yes, I can do that! Years of content writing and translation have not gone into waste, they have shaped me. Prepared me for the new career I am about to undertake. I have been told that regarding this area, my CV is exceptional. Let’s make a good use of it then! Once again, I am excited about living. Such a great feeling when you decide to forget about all the stuff you are not so good at.
